What is Reiki and how can it help me?
Reiki is a hands-on healing method that helps people relax, promote healing and increase energy flow. The art of laying on hands for healing and comfort has been done since the beginning of time. Clients usually wish to heal physical or emotional problems, help with balancing their energies or they might want to focus on relaxation and letting go of any uncomfortable feelings such as stress, anxiety and overwhelm. Reiki gives the client some well-deserved ‘me-time‘ where they can increase their well-being and recharge their batteries. If practised regularly it can also assist individuals on their path of spiritual growth and development.
What happens in a session?
After an initial chat in which client and practitioner set an intention for the treatment (such as healing a particular physical or emotional issue, relaxation, chakra balancing, grounding, spiritual growth, etc.) the client can choose to either sit on a chair or lie on a treatment bed (fully clothed). The Reiki practitioner then connects to the Reiki healing channel and starts moving her hand hands around the client’s energy field and chakra centres, either hovering over their body or laying on hands, depending on the client’s preference (previously established in the initial chat). The client usually closes their eyes and may focus on the set intention or simply daydream and relax to the tranquil background music or aroma-scented candles. The session is usually concluded with a brief grounding exercise led the by practitioner, followed by a chat and some aftercare advice.
What does Reiki mean and where does it come from?
Reiki is a form of energy therapy also called palm healing or hands on healing. It was first developed in 1922 by a Japanese Buddhist monk called Mikao Usui. The word Reiki is Japanese and means ‘Universal Life Force Energy’. A Reiki practitioner has been attuned by a Reiki Master and is therefore able to channel this specific universal healing energy and pass it on to the client which then activates their self-healing powers.
There are various branches of Reiki, Usui Reiki being the traditional form and Shamballa Reiki being a more recently developed form channeled in the 1990s. Shamballa Reiki is often described as the next level of Reiki which is perceived by many as more powerful than the original one. It is a system called ‘Shamballa Multidimensional Healing System’ and the energy channeled is light and pure unconditional love. It relaxes, heals and rejuvenates. It encourages you to take your own power back and work in accordance with the Divine Will and/or your higher Self.
About the Practitioner
I’m a certified Shamballa Reiki Master. I trained over several years in a mountain village in Northern Thailand. That village has a unique and powerful energy and is known for being a remarkable place for learning the art of healing. Clients usually say that Reiki is a wonderfully powerful and lovely energy. It is warm and gentle but can also be perceived as tingly, cooling, smoothing or as an emotional wave of love and compassion. I use this amazing energy on a regular basis and it has definitely made a great difference in my life. As a Shamballa Reiki Master I offer treatments as well as Reiki training. If you’re interested in a treatment, want to know more about Reiki or wish to train in Shamballa Reiki, either for self-treatments or to become a practitioner, please fill in the contact form or email me: Sandy@emotionalbalance.co.uk or Sandy@bodymindhealing.co.uk.
